Below is a list of our frequently asked questions. Click on the question to see the answer.   If you dont see the answer you need here, or on our home page please do contact us.

What is included in the booking price?

Everything is included with the booking cost except for the following two ‘extras’ .

  1. Dogs where permitted. (no charge for assistance dogs) All other dogs when permitted are subject to a £20 surcharge) see below.
  2. Moving the electric profile bed from the single room to the double room (see ‘bedroom configuration’ below). This has a one off £45 surcharge to cover the costs of moving the bed.

Do you provide towels and linen?

We provide a bath towel and hand towel and flannel for each guest. We also provide tea towels and all bedding.

Do you take dogs?

Assistance dogs are welcome and at no extra cost – and small well behaved dogs are sometimes allowed but strictly by prior arrangement only please.  We do ask for £20 surcharge per dog when allowed as we give the bungalow an extra deep clean after doggie guests  (a lot of our guests are hyper-allergenic).

Unfortunately Croft Bungalow is not suitable for all dogs. We cannot cater for large or lively dogs. We have low or non existent boundaries with other properties around us and are adjacent to open fields with lambs and sheep in them, so when doggie guests do stay we need to be very strict with rules around keeping them on leads outside. Unfortunately the garden is really not doggie friendly.

There are plenty of dog walks near to us though. We do have guests that stay with their dogs by prior arrangement so please contact us to discuss and we can talk through prior to booking. If that hasnt put you off lets have a call and talk through. Our number is 01629 650979

Can we arrange local carers to attend during our visit?

We dont do this for you, but we can provide a list of local carers for you to contact and make arrangements with.   We regularly have our guests do this and it works well.

What is there to do nearby?

Absolutely loads.

The Peak District National Park is  the oldest and most accessible national park in the UK.  It has over 13 million visitors a year.

There are lots of accessible activities from country trails to stately homes to market towns to outdoor accessilble activities including offroad electric wheelchair hire, wheelchair sailing and a huge number of shows events and festivals.   See our Day trips & activities page.

What is the bedroom configuration?

We love a Bedroom challenge..!

And we get plenty. With one double room, one twin room & a pull down settee just how many ways can there be to actually configure the bedrooms?

We take up to 4 guests routinely – very occasionally we are persuaded to take more – but in special circumstances and by prior arrangement only please. We have to make provision.

We are always being asked for new configurations and we have most bases covered now by providing the following:

1) Double room + Electric profile bed in the single room

2) Twin room + Electric profile bed in the single room

3) Mixed room – Electric profile bed + single bed in double room & single bed in single room. (popular with couples where one requires the hoist, or where a guest who uses a hoist and carer need to share a room)

4) Any of the above with double bed/pull down settee in the lounge (popular with two couples, couples with carers or family with older children)

5) Any of the above with extra fold away camp bed in the single room. (often requested by families where one child requires the electric bed and cot sides and they wish to put a second child in the same room to liberate the lounge in the evenings for grown ups  , or where there are 3 carers with a guest and 1 needs to be present in the room with the guest. The camp bed can be quickly folded away to give wheelchair access)

6) When regular guests turned up last year they caught us out by having an extra person.  A very very small extra person.  So a quick dash to Argos saved the day and we now have a travel cot available too.

If you have yet another scenario please let me know – we love a challenge and try and accomodate everyone

How do we pay the balance for our visit?

Balance is due 6 weeks before your stay.  We normally send out an email with a link to pay online by credit card a week or so before its due.  However we can take payment by bank transfer or cheque if you prefer.

If you want to pay early, or by bank transfer or cheque then please just contact us and we can sort it out.

Can we arrange for Oxygen to be delivered before we arrive?

We do have guests who require supplimentary oxygen and we are quite used to getting oxygen deliveries in advance. in fact we now have a special shed just for storing them – so its not a problem.  just let us know when you book.

What is the cost to hire the hoist & other accessible equipment.

All equipment is covered in the cost of the rental for your break.  We dont charge people who need extra help to hire equipment we already have.

The only extra charges we make are

1) for moving the Electric profile bed into the double room (we need an external engineer to dismantle and rebuild it) .    and

2) for dogs (not assistance dogs) – as we have to have an extra cleaning routine on departure. (A lot of our guests are hypo-allergenic)

Is there offroad parking?

Croft Bungalow has private parking right outside the bungalow with plenty of room to unload.  There is a 30 metre drive from the road, so guests need to be ok to reverse one way as well as drive the other way.  We provide details of the best way depending on what side you unload on – in our joining instructions.

See ‘How big / wide is the drive?’ below for photos.

How big / wide is the drive?

The Drive is 30 metres long,  and 2.75 metres ( 9 feet) wide.

There is limited room to turn round so guests need to be prepared to reverse in and drive out (our recommended approach) some guests with smaller cars do turn round at the bottom – but we feel it safer to advise guests that they will need to reverse one way.

Can we hire an electric scooter for our visit?

Not from us.  But we have a relationship with a local mobility shop that will hire (and deliver) a scooter to you.   Just let us know when you book and we will forward details.

Are there any wheelchair friendly walks nearby.?

There are two pubs within pushing distance (one is 50metres away and one is 100metres away)

There are a couple of motorised wheelchair/scooter walks that can be done from Croft Bungalow and ABSOLUTELY LOADS that can be done just a small car ride away.  See our Day trips & activities page.

Are the two pubs in the village accessible?

Both pubs are very keen to welcome guests with access needs (we strongly advise booking and stating your needs as they are more than happy to reserve tables in the most accessible place).  The Red Lion has a ramp and the Druid is in the process of buying one (I will update this as soon as they have bought it) .  Neither have accessible toilets yet unfortunately though both are planning on adding them soon.   We will update this as soon as the work is done but for now they dont have accessible toilets.

How far is it to the nearest shop?

There is no shop within walking distance.  There are several shops within a 10 minute drive and we do give details in our information leaflet.  Some guests also arrange for a home delivery from a local supermarket (Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda will all deliver to Croft Bungalow.)

We have friends/family near by - can they visit us at Croft Bungalow?

We absolutely insist on it.

We get a LOT of guests staying for this reason and family visitors are very very welcome.  We are happy for them to stay over too as long as its pre-arranged, numbers dont exceed 4, and there are no dogs we didn’t know about. Let us know when you book so we can make any bedding adjustments necessary.

What equipment is in the kitchen?

So….  its a fully stocked, fully functional kitchen.

White goods wise it has

  • Fridge/freezer
  • Oven
  • Cooker/4 rings
  • Grill
  • Dishwasher
  • Microwave oven
  • Toaster
  • Kettle
  • Washing machine

It has a full compliment of pots and pans, glasses, plates, cutlery etc.

If there is anything at all you specifically would like please ask and we will confirm or possibly get it if we think that other guests will use it too.

What equipment is in the garden?

Our garden is a fabulous suntrap with views over open country.  As well as the Sensory garden  we have the following equipment

  • 2 sun loungers
  • Picnic table (wheelchair friendly)
  • Gas bbq

What cleaning equipment is supplied?

We supply a dust pan and brush, broom, and a vacuum cleaner as well as various disinfectant sprays etc.  We ask guests to empty the bins, clean any spillages or obvious mess, but we don’t expect you to do a cleaning deep dive… thats our job and your on holiday.

is there spare bedding?

We dont routinely provide it but we do appreciate that sometimes guests do need an unexpected change of bedding – if thats the case just contact us and we will do our best to oblige. (we cant promise it will match – but we won’t leave you stuck)

What is the refund / cancellation policy?

It is strongly recommended that guests either have adequate travel insurance or take advantage of the booking refund protection scheme that we offer (it comes up as an option when booking) to protect themselves against cancellation costs.

Unfortunately we are not able to return any monies paid and urge guests to ensure they have adequate insurance – or they take out our booking refund protection when they book.

See our full Booking terms and conditions here.

Are there any local takeaways that deliver?

Full updated details in our information booklet. Its on display in the bungalow and sent out to guests when they book.
