They are accessed via a  1250mm wide uncovered passage at the side of the house and a 20 degree ramp and is 1370mm wide

Wet roll-in bathroom

The bathroom is a wet roll-in room with WC,  shower and sink.  The sink has a mirror at wheelchair height,  and there are two transition bars – one either side of the WC.

There are grabrails throughout the bathroom including at the back of the door so that it can be closed behind by a guest in a wheelchair.

The light is operated by a pull chord on the wall side of the door as you enter the room. The room is tiled throughout.

The WC is adjacent to the wall (on the right hand side as you sit on it) All transferring is either from the front or the left hand side).

Height of the loo is 495mm

Lighting is LED ceiling lights, and natural light from the window.

Lounge

The lounge is as open plan with doorways into the both bedrooms, the WC and the kitchen.

There are two riser-recliner chairs.  One is perfectly positioned for prime spot for the TV.

There is a low   leather settee that can also fold out into a double bed,  and a rocking chair.

The electric fire is in a local gritstone fireplace and has a real fire flame effect to add to the mood on winter nights.  It has a hand held remote control for easy operation.

Doorways from the lounge lead to the single bedroom, the wet roll-in bathroom, the kitchen and the double bedroom.  All doorframes throughout are painted dark grey to contrast with the pastel white walls to provide contrast for visually impaired guests.  There is no door fitted on the kitchen/lounge doorway – to create more space and to allow carers in the kitchen to see into the lounge at all times.

Lighting is LED ceiling lights (dimmable) floor standing lamp and small tabletop lamp, and natural light through the windows.

Kitchen

The kitchen has a wide doorway and a table that folds up out of the way when not in use to create more floor space – but otherwise is a standard kitchen with no further adaptations.  Guests with access needs would require an able bodied carer to assist them in the kitchen.

Lighting is LED ceiling lights, and natural light from the window.

Fixtures and fittings in the kitchen include:

  • Tall fridge / freezer
  • 4 ring cooker and oven
  • Microwave cooker
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher
  • Toaster
  • Kettle
  • Lever operated taps (throughout the bungalow)
  • Pots, pans, saucepans, glasses and glassware, cups, plates and cutlery

Single bedroom

The single bedroom has the electric profile bed.  A camp bed for a second sibling can be set up on request but the camp bed would need to be moved in the day to provide enough floor space for the hoist or a wheelchair.

The room can also be set up as a ‘pop up’ sensory room on request.  We can provide lights and a bubble tube.  (No charge for this)

The room has wheelchair friendly coat hooks and fixtures, and a wheelchair height wall mirror.

Lighting is LED ceiling lights, and natural light through the windows.

Double/twin room

The double room configuration options are:

  • Double room
  • Twin room
  • Electric profile bed and single bed (so couples where one requires the electric profile bed and / or the hoist can still share)

The room has wheelchair friendly coat hooks and fixtures, and a wheelchair height wall mirror.

Lighting is LED ceiling lights, and natural light through the windows.

The window overlooks the private garden and open country views.

Height of bed 600mm

Welcoming Autistic Guests

Everyone is welcome and we appreciate that some guests like a little extra assistance and help when choosing whether or not to stay with us.    You can download our sensory story below.

We will make sure we help alleviate any anxiety,   make allowance for people that like a little extra time to process information,  be patient,   give people as much space as they need and help reduce sensory overload wherever possible.

We are happy to move any furniture around to make things more comfortable or acceptable,  and we do encourage inspection and familiarisation visits before guests book (or after they have booked and before their stay)

We can provide a printed version of our sensory story on request too.
